Frequently asked questions
What does /24 mean?
A CIDR prefix: the first 24 bits of the address are the network number, the remaining 8 are hosts. A /24 network has 256 addresses, 254 of them for devices.
Why are there 2 fewer hosts?
The first address is the network address and the last is broadcast — devices don't get them. The exceptions are /31 and /32.
