Network and addresses
ASN (autonomous system)
A provider's network number on the internet. It shows whose IP address it is.
The internet is made of networks, each with its own number — an ASN (for example, AS57008). Every IP address belongs to some network, so an address reveals whose server it is.
That is how our “Which hosting is a site on” check works: it finds the IP, its network and matches it with catalog providers' networks. A provider with its own network usually owns its hardware rather than reselling someone else's.
