Disks and data
RAID
Several disks working as one: data survives a disk failure.
RAID combines several disks. In RAID 1 and RAID 10 every data block is written to at least two disks: if one fails, the server keeps running and the provider replaces the disk.
RAID protects against disk failure but does not replace backups: it will not save an accidentally deleted file or a hacked server.
